IF YOU HAVE POWERS THAT LET YOU SEE DEATH-RELATED THINGS: You might see a glowing black heart-shaped void where his heart is. (how can something glow black? it just does.) If you want to figure out the specifics, hit me up, otherwise you're free to have any character with the appropriate powerset notice and react ICly.
A NOTE ON DUNCAN'S PTSD: Because you don't get out of a personal meeting with an eldritch horror without some serious trauma. If you want to OPT-OUT of ever having this come up in a thread, let me know and I will be sure to avoid situations where it would come up ICly. (I don't tend to spring this stuff unannounced anyway but if you let me know ahead of time I'll go out of my way to avoid it for you.)
He has not quite acknowledged to himself just how badly that experience fucked him up, so he's not conscious of a lot of these things. He tries to downplay his reactions and pretend he's not affected, but the following things will trigger his PTSD and I don't recommend bringing them up in a thread unless you are prepared for the possibility of an IC panic attack. (But I mean, if you are, then FEEL FREE, permission granted in advance, esp for the mild ones.)
Mild:
- Dark or dim places, okay if he can immediately switch on some lights, makes him jumpy and anxious if he has to deal with it for an extended period.
- Cold ambient temperature, and his tolerance threshold is low. Uncomfortably warm for most people is right about where his comfort zone starts. This gets about the same reaction as darkness, with a focus on trying to solve it by either raising the temp or piling on layers.
Moderate:
- Overpowering unpleasant smells, especially spoiled milk and mold. Spoiled milk in particular gets a visceral vomit response (but i am emetophobic so uhhh don't expect any degree of detail there). Will leave him shaken and on-edge for a while after.
- Sounds of carnage; the language spoken by the Denizen is made up of a lot of phonemes that sound identical to bodies being mutilated in increasingly creative ways, so GOOD-BYE DUNCAN'S ABILITY TO WATCH SLASHER FILMS EVER AGAIN. Bones snapping and meat grinding are the big ones. In the wrong context (ie the more surprising and sudden and close it is to what he actually heard) this one can actually give him flashbacks so it borders on severe.
Severe:
- Cold, direct contact. The shower suddenly turning cold on him or cold hands on his skin or a snowball to the face or etc. The less prepared he is for the possibility the worse it is, so this is one that can give him some serious panic attacks if he's caught by surprise.
